I had took some photos of the N78 and did try it out a little. Here is the unboxing with photos.
Instead of giving us the N96, Nokia is releasing the N78. Getting one on hand, the all new N78 did not give me any “wow” from the look of it. Taking it out of the box and then turn it on to use, everything is so Nokia “N”. If you are not a Nokia fan, you may mistakenly think it is a N82 or something. They look so similar. Some may call it “Branding”, some may call it “Boring”. Nokia users, you may tell me what you think.
Out of the box, we have the phone, the battery, the charger, handsfree, USB cable, CD and Manual.
When turned off or not inactive mode, the phone acted similar to the Motorola E8, that all numbers and buttons are dimmed. So, as shown in the picture, you will see a black piece of plastic on the table. Well, I say similar, because E8 actually will display different keypad layout for different modes. However, the N78 just hide the numbers for you and that is it.
The N78 comes with a 2GB Micro SD card and can support up to 8GB according to the Nokia specification. The slot is located on the side which you can switch card pretty easily.
When turn on or in active mode, the numbers on the keypad will light up. The idea is kind of cool but just the Moto E8 is more advanced using the same trick. Actually, the side red and green keys are also mechanical buttons. They are not heat sensitive stuff as it may seem to be. So the whole big black plastic area is clickable. Yes, the number keys are thin and tiny. Big guy like you cannot dial out a call with this. Oh this unit has the Chinese keypad. Let us know if you don't want them.
The stereo speakers are located on both sides of the phone. This picture shows you the upper right hand side location.
N78 has 3.5mm headphone jack for the music lovers. You can use your favourite headphone with the phone. That is good.
It has got an auto focus 3.2 mega pixel Carl Zeiss lens camera with flash at the back. I have prepared some testing picture for you to see how good this phone’s camera is capable of.

The phone menu. I need to mention that the D-Pad is actually motion sensitive. So you can scroll left to all the way up in the menu by circling the D-Pad counter clockwise. Of course vice versa to the right.

Camera in action. The big square is the focus area. It also got the macro mode for very close photo shooting.
Actual photo quality from the N78. Just resized, no retouch. You can see the picture quality is so good even with the 3.2 MP camera. Even those scratch marks can be taken with this phone camera.

The camera and music player quality are both very good. Even though the N78 looked boring and the number keys are so tiny, the Nokia N quality is still there for all Nokia fans. The N78 also got the Assisted GPS inside, all these powerful features make the N78 a good phone to consider. So at the end, the only concern left is the (more expensive than the N82) price tag. What is Nokia thinking?
