With an appealing matte black and clear-cut appearance, XZ-1 proves to be much more than that. Without compromising its trademark stunning design, Olympus guarantees its performance by offering the superb Zuiko lens, super-sensitive CCD sensor and so forth. The built-in Olympus Zuiko lens is certainly a big selling point of XZ-1. Indeed, the high-end optics company is famous for manufacturing sophisticated lens that used to appear only on SLRs. XZ-1 is thus the very first compact camera installed with a ZUIKO lens.
The neat tiny pop-up flash sitting on the top left corner of the camera’s back plate is definitely a delicate treat by Olympus. It can be raised manually to control remotely and fire compatible flashguns.
The rear panel is dominated by the high-resolution, 3.0" 621k (VGA equivalent) OLED display. The gorgeous screen is able to offers superb brightness and contrast with better viewing angles and better battery life than usual LCD displays do.
The rear control dial around the four-way pad allows the users to set shutter speed in manually, exposure compensation in different modes and also to navigate menus. Together with another control dial around the lens and other keys, settings-changing is now made convenient and easy.
On top of the camera, you can find the power button, the shutter release, zoom rocker and mode dial. The iAuto mode has always appeared on any E-PL cameras. XZ-1, more than that, also features other most-used control like the P,A,S, M modes, the Art Filters and the Low Light modes.
The AP-1 accessory port can therefore be used to connect the brilliant VF-2 external viewfinder, SEMA-1 external microphone or MAL-1 LED macro lights yet not the recently-announced PENPal Bluetooth add-on.
All in all, XZ-1 is surely worthy of being called as a class-leading compact.
