Nokia 5730 XpressMusic comes with a wide array of offerings which is going to consolidate the success of Nokia E75 and bring the affordable QWERTY-smartphone to the ground. Also, it powered by the Symbian OS and Nokia's S60 user interface as well as the 3.5mm jack and the 3.2MP Carl Zeiss optics Len. It seems to be combining all the goodies from different features phones into one to promise a bit of everything: music, web, gaming and connectivity. Let’s see how the 5730 XpressMusic lives up to its claims.
Curious about what will be included in the package of the first QWERTY messenger in Nokia’s music lineup? The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic, a battery, stereo headset, USB cable, a travel charger, Mini DVD and Short user guide.
The 5730 XpressMusic looks sturdy in grey. It’s all plastic here, no other fancy stuff just almost replica of the 5630 XpressMusic by looking at its front panel.
The keypad under the 2.4”display is comfortable. The number pads with old-school-matrix-like dotted symbols are big enough. The Menu and Clear keys are slightly raised and sufficiently apart from the D-pad, hence accidentally mispresses are unlikely to be an issue.
At the top, we have the 3.5mm standard audio jack.
The charging port is at the bottom left.
At the left side, we have the microUSB port and the microSD card slot (support for up to 16 GB). They're both covered with plastic lids to avoid getting filled with dust.
Turn to right side, we have the volume rocker and the camera key.
The 3.2MP camera lens with a smallish LED flash. The back cover is made of opaque plastic which is completely fingerprint-proof. Nice~
It features the same sideways QWERTY slider form factor that Nokia used for the E75. But this time is in distinct XpressMusic styling not business.
On the left side of the display, there are the standard music player controls which are typical of the XpressMusic lineup. And the QWERTY keyboard below the display has the same font styling as the alphanumeric one and its handling is comfortable and secure.
5730 XpressMusic runs on the Symbian 9.3 OS with S60 3rd Edition user interface with Feature Pack 2. It’s exactly the same things in E75.
Browsing the internet with 5730 XpressMusic, like with all Nokia smartphones, is a pleasant experience. It’s the perfect combination here, great web browser and a comfy QWERTY keyboard.
The 5730 XpressMusic is hardly a revelation as the styling is obviously taking after the 5630 and the side-sliding QWERTY here makes all the different between them. Of course the Nokia music lineup is keen on keeping things simple. It also takes all goodies from Nokia E75 and finally comes out with extremely competitive price. I can say it is squeezing all the already available technology in an already available design.
