Hyundai W100 Triband Touchscreen Watch Phone is perhaps one of the most interesting gadget phones of the year. It has got a 1.3 mega pixel camera, FM Radio, a color 176 x 144 pixels touchscreen display and Bluetooth with A2DP. An integrated MP3 player with a microSD slot for loading up songs and saving pictures. Kind of like the old spy movies to take secret picture from your watch.

I have been playing with the original white Hynudai W100 TRIBAND watch phone for a while last year. It was fun using all the features included. As I did on our newsletter's review last year, it is not a perfect watch phone but definitely something important as an innovator. But very quickly the stocks were sold out and cannot even get them back in the inventory. Yesterday, I was informed that the new black color is available and I quickly get it on hand and take some photos to share with you guys.
For those who have no idea about this gadget phone. Hyundai W100 is a phone with camera, MP3, touchscreen, and included an A2DP Bluetooth headsets. So if we are talking about features, this little gadget is definitely packed with everything you wanted. In the package it also comes with 2 batteries, in case it ran out in the middle of daily use. It is indeed very thoughtful.
The shape of the A2DP Bluetooth headset is a bit odd, but it can be magnetically snap together when not in use. And most importantly, it came with the package.
1.3 MP camera is located at the top of the watch. For the tiny screen and everything being so compact, 1.3 mega pixel it is not bad at all. The W100 also has the Micro SD memory slot for you to store your picts and MP3 songs. Yeah, everything in that compact watch size thing.
The stylus is attached in a slot with the watch (fascinating) and we can use it to do the touchscreen action for menu selections.
The screen is sharp and clear.
Menu screen is small but simple enough for you to choose what you wanted.
Yes, a MP3 player is included and you can listen to your music through the included A2DP headsets. Well of course if you want to use another pair of Sony DS980, it is your choice.
This watch phone thing keeps reminding me the old spy movies that you use a watch to talk with the other spy and take photos with it at the same time. Is it the inspiration of making a phone like this? I am not sure.
At the end, for the price and the degree of fun, the watch phone is definitely something you should consider using as a second phone. That is also why it sold out so quickly last time.
For US users, it is a Triband phone. Please make sure your operator supports GSM 1900 to use this phone.

Wanted to clarify something about the phone. You can hold it to your ear, or push a button for very loud speakerphone, or talk on the wired headset, or use the bluetooth one. GSM signal tends to go down if you are using the bluetooth.
Quality is best on the wired headset and it also looks unique. If someone had this headset around their neck back in the 80s they would have been elected king of all geeks:)

I have just purchased the Hyundai W100. The phone arrived with a 512M OEM micro-SD card taped to the box. The card was shorted and nearly melted my phone, causing it to overheat and not work properly while the card was inserted. The phone was ok, but the card did melt in seconds a SD adaptor that I used to subsequently test the card in my PC card reader.
This is very dangerous and can cause defects worth hundreds of dollars because of a couple of dollars saved. I recommend that people test these cards before using them in an expensive appliance.
I am somewhat disappointed, less so because the phone seems to be fine even after I had the card in there for a few hours.

This phone has excellent reception.Camera is also excellent quality for the size of unit.Video record is great also. The speaker phone is the only issue. It's not very loud.Remember it's a lot of technology wrapped in a very small package!Touch screen is very receptive and fully functional as well.Works flawlessly with my LG verizon HBM-730 bluetooth headset! There is simply NO comparison to the M300,M600,M500,M800,M900,M909.I've owned them all,and the Hyundai W100 is the best on the current market, make no mistake. You can remove handset from the band and use it as such. You also get a desktop battery charger in the package, which is a lifesaver!Battery life is phenomonal! The mp3 player is louder and virtually no distortion as I have ever heard on such a small unit!Simply download your music from your P.C and listen! This unit puts most portable mp3 units to shame. It also has a voice and conversation recorder.Record your phone conversations for later recall.I was one of the first to own one long before anyone on ebay, and it's all I use these days!Enjoy! The above reviewer must have gotten a bad unit.

I have used this phone for over 2 months.
As a phone the reception is not good at all when using Bluetooth. I have used Nokia BH801, Plantronics Explorer 340 and Motorola S9. Music via Motorola S9 is perfect. Creating a pay list for music files is not easy and if you get Chinese only manual then good luck as you will not be able to find an English manual on web. The camera does not produce satisfactory photos so it is useless. The styles is also useless as it is very very difficult to use the small screen to key in alpha numeric with this styles. Could have been better if the unit have been flatter and little wider (a wider screen could have given us a better on screen keyboard).
Positives- good battery (charge time and standby time), music quality is good, does not crash much like PPCs
Negatives- very poor reception, very poor styles and too tiny on screen key board, missing synchronisation option (thus phone book needs to be created fresh), No software (third party) possible, missing notepad option, missing acrobat, word excel support. Design could have been improved. Cannot use without the headset (wired or Bluetooth). Included Bluetooth may be fake or low quality.
Conclusion: to early in development stage. But definitely this is a futuristic product so If you can resist the temptation of having it now please wait for improved versions.
